Wrinkle Relaxers FAQs

Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport® and Nuceiva™

 Botox®

  • What is the difference between Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport® and Nuceiva™

Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport® and Nuceiva™  are all injectable cosmetic treatments that use different forms of botulinum toxin type A to temporarily relax facial muscles and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA): Botox is one of the most well-known brands of botulinum toxin type A. It was the first to receive approval for cosmetic use and has been widely used for various aesthetic and medical conditions. Botox contains accessory proteins, and the dosing is measured in "units."

Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA): Dysport is another brand of botulinum toxin type A. It has a slightly different formulation and contains fewer accessory proteins compared to Botox. The dosing of Dysport is measured in "units" as well, but the units used for Dysport may differ from those used for Botox.

Nuceiva (prabotulinumtoxinA): Nuceiva is a newer brand of botulinum toxin type A that was approved for cosmetic use in Canada. Like Dysport, Nuceiva contains fewer accessory proteins than Botox. It also uses a different unit measurement for dosing, which may vary from Botox and Dysport.

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA): Xeomin is another form of botulinum toxin type A that does not contain any accessory proteins. It is often referred to as a "naked injectable" due to its purity. The dosing for Xeomin is measured in "units" as well, but it may have different dosing requirements compared to Botox and Dysport.

In terms of effectiveness and safety, all four products have been Health Canada and FDA approved for cosmetic use and have shown positive results in reducing wrinkles and fine lines. The choice betweenBotox®, Xeomin®, Dysport® and Nuceiva™ may depend on individual preferences, treatment goals, and how the patient responds to each product.

  • Why choose Botox® Cosmetic at Modern You Medical Aesthetics?

Burlington Botox® has gained popularity as an effective method for reducing wrinkles, initially targeting the forehead. Today, it is used to address crow’s feet, lines around the eyes and nose, neck bands, and other general wrinkles. Botox® is often combined with other face volumizers.

Being a non- nvasive and cost effective solution compared to surgical anti-aging options, Botox® does not require anesthesia or painkillers during the treatment. The injections are generally quick and not uncomfortable for the majority of individuals.

Despite the apparent simplicity of Botox® treatments, it is crucial to remember that it is a medical  procedure and should only be performed by a qualified medical professional.

  • What can Burlington Botox® Cosmetic injections help to treat?

At our Burlington med spa, both men, women and others can benefit from Botox® treatments to address a variety of aesthetic and medical conditions, such as:

    • Wrinkles
    • Finelines
    • Forehead lines
    • Frown lines
    • Crows Feet
    • Bunny Lines
    • Lip Flip
    • Masseter (TMJ)
    • Facial Slimming
    • Brow lift
    • Nose (Nostrils and Pores)
    • Traps
    • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in the palms of hands and feet, underarms.

  • How does Botox® work?

Botox® is a diluted, injectable botulinum toxin, specifically onabotulinumtoxinA, that works by blocking nerve impulses responsible for muscle contractions.

When injected, Botox® only affects the specific areas it is targeted, leaving the nerves responsible for sensation unaffected.

The effectiveness of Botox® requires precise and tailored dosages depending on the specific condition being treated.

  • What are your Burlington Botox® treatments like?

Explore our blog for a guide on the step-by-step process of the wrinkle relaxer treatment. Gain valuable insights into the procedure, its effectiveness, and how it can help you achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance.

  • Is getting Botox® painful?

Burlington Botox® treatments typically are not painful. In most cases, patients experience minimal discomfort, and a cold compress may be applied if needed, though it is not usually necessary.

  • How many Botox® treatments does it take to see results?

Botox® Cosmetic is not a permanent solution for the conditions it addresses. The effects of Botox® on wrinkles typically last around three to four months, but this may vary depending on the individual.

For other uses, such as treating sweating, migraines, and muscle contractions  we recommend Botox® treatments every four to five months.

While some results may be visible within a few days, it may take up to a week to observe the full effects of Botox® after a treatment session.

  • Is there downtime after Burlington Botox® Cosmetic treatments?

After a Burlington Botox® treatment, there is usually minimal to no downtime. Most people can resume their normal activities immediately after the injections. View our wrinkle relaxer after care guidelines below.

To prevent bruising, it is recommended to avoid taking painkillers or blood thinners close to the time of the injection. Also, refrain from touching or rubbing the treated areas for a few days.

This cosmetic treatment should always be done by a professional, preferably a doctor or nurse, to ensure safety and effectiveness. Beware of 'bargain' deals and counterfeit products, as they can pose risks to your health. At Modern You Medical Aesthetics, Botox® is only administered by licensed nurses using the authentic brand name product directly from Allergan.

It's important to note that Botox® Cosmetic treatments are not suitable for individuals under the age of 18.

Xeomin®

  • Is Burlington Xeomin™ Cosmetic injections an alternative to Botox®, Dysport™ and Nuceiva™?

At Modern You Medical Aesthetics in Burlington, we offer Botox®, Dysport™, Nuceiva, and Burlington Xeomin Cosmetic™ injections. All these brands utilize a botulinum toxin type A solution to relax muscles responsible for wrinkles. While Botox®, Dysport™ and Nuceiva™  have additional protein-wrapped molecules, Xeomin® boasts a purer form of the neuromodulator. This uniqueness makes it beneficial for patients unresponsive to Botox®, Dysport™ or Nuceiva™  effects.

While these brand-name products differ in certain aspects, they share the same core function of relaxing wrinkles. It's similar to how different tissue brands serve the same purpose, even if they are made slightly differently.

Their distinctions mainly lie in molecular adaptations, doses, storage needs, and injection procedures. This emphasizes the importance of choosing with a med-spa physician who is experienced in botulinum toxin type A applications.

At Modern You Medical Aesthetics in Burlington, our experienced nurses are trained and work daily with Xeomin™. Our medical team can guide you toward the best formula for your specific needs.

  • Why choose Xeomin™?

Xeomin™ injections is great for patients who no longer respond well to Botox®, Dysport™ or Nuceiva™. Xeomin™ serves as a viable alternative, with a positive outcome and offesr a distinct advantage over its competitors – a reduced likelihood of forming antibodies. Unlike other brands, Xeomin™ lacks extra proteins that the body can become desensitized to over time, leading to a diminishing effect on wrinkle-smoothing.

Beyond its purity, Xeomin™ shares the same high-quality properties as name-brand wrinkle relaxers. It is approved by Health Canada and the FDA for treating frown lines and other areas of the face.

  • How does Xeomin™ reduce wrinkles?

Unlike Botox® Dysport™ and Nuceiva™ which contain different additive proteins to adjust their behavior, Xeomin™ targets nerves within muscles to disable contractions and smooth out the skin where facial expressions have caused lines.

During the treatment, a trained nurse will study your facial anatomy, mark injection points, and use a thin needle for precise injections. The procedure is relatively painless for most people.

  • How long does Xeomin™ last for?

Patients often notice the effects of Xeomin™ within 3 to 4 days after the injection, making it faster-acting than Botox®, which typically takes about a week to show results. The duration of its effects can last up to 3 months, with some patients reporting even longer-lasting outcomes. However, individual responses may vary, as with any wrinkle injection treatment.

  • Is Xeomin™ the right choice for those with allergies to Botox®, Dysport™, or Nuceiva™ due to its lactose-free and cow's milk-free?

Xeomin™ is can be an excellent choice for individuals with allergies to Botox®, Dysport™, or Nuceiva™ because it does not contain any lactose or cow's milk. This purity of ingredients makes it a safe and suitable option for those with specific allergies or sensitivities to other neuromodulator treatments.

  • Is there downtime after Xeomin™ injections?

The simple answer is no but please continue reading!

Rarely does Xeomin™ require downtime, and most individuals can resume their normal activities immediately after the treatment. Some common side effects include headaches, bruising, swelling, or itching at the injection site.

To minimize bruising, it's recommended to avoid blood thinners at least 10 days before the injection. If you experience itchiness, refrain from scratching or rubbing the area to ensure optimal results. Applying heat to the treated area should be avoided for at least a week after the treatment.

While severe side effects are uncommon due to the highly diluted form of the neurotoxin used for cosmetic purposes, it's essential to be aware of potential risks. If you encounter any reactions beyond minor bruising or swelling, promptly contact our clinic or seek emergency medical attention.

During the initial consultation, it's crucial to disclose your complete medical history, including allergies and medications. Even if you've had other dermal injections in the past, it does not guarantee your eligibility for Xeomin™ injections.

It's important to note that pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as minors, should can not receive Xeomin™ injections.

Burlington Fat Burner Deoxycholic Acid ~ injections to get rid of chin fat.

We provide Deoxycholic Acid injections at Modern You located in Burlington. This treatment addresses chin fat, medically referred to as submental fullness. Remarkably, it's the only method approved by Health Canada for reducing a double chin without resorting to surgery. In the United States, it's known as Kybella® and holds FDA approval.

  • How does deoxycholic acid work to dissolve chin fat??

Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies. Essentially, it works by 'dissolving' the fat cells that contribute to the appearance of a 'double chin.'

Modern You Medical Aesthetics started offering Deoxycholic Acid™ soon after it received Health Canada's approval. This product is among our many non-invasive solutions designed to contour the face and eliminate undesirable fat.

To determine if Deoxycholic Acid™ is the right fit for your needs in comparison to other options for chin fat reduction, we encourage you to schedule a consultation at our medical spa. This assessment will allow us to evaluate you and inform you about alternative treatments we provide for submental fullness.

  • How many sessions of deoxycholic acid will I need?

Deoxycholic acid offers a non-surgical alternative for achieving a lifted chin. The treatment session typically takes under an hour. Usually 2 to 6 treatment sessions are sufficient to notice results.

This procedure is typically repeated once a month, for up to 6 treatments. The number of sessions necessary depends on when the chin fat is fully addressed and the desired contour is achieved.

  • What can (deoxycholic acid) fat burning treatment be used for?

This special acid essentially dissolves fat cells in the submental area, which is the scientific term for the region under the chin. This breakdown releases the contents within the fat cells, which the body eliminates as waste. Fat cells treated in this manner are permanently removed and cannot regenerate.

It's important to understand that if weight is regained, a double chin might reappear. Therefore, this treatment is most effective for addressing persistent "stubborn fat" or for individuals whose chin fat is linked to genetics and aging rather than fluctuating weight.

No anesthesia is administered during this process, and for most individuals, it is not overly painful.

It's important to note that Deoxycholic acid ™ isn't suitable for addressing deep-seated fat (the type that necessitates surgery or weight loss). It also doesn't address neck fat or residual sagging skin. The latter concern might require an alternative approach. Modern You does offer skin tightening treatments, and during your initial consultation, we will discuss these options with you and provide insight into what you can expect.
